Use AI to Build Your EPK (with my simple prompt)

Ok. You've read our EPK creation guide (you can find that: here) so you know what a good one looks like, and how to write one. But now you've clicked around and found this post hoping there's a shortcut. And well, there is. Congratulations!

I've written a prompt that turns ChatGPT or Claude into your own press writer. It studies a couple of example EPKs, asks you the right questions, and hands you back a finished one-page EPK using your own artwork. The whole thing takes about as long as making a cup of tea.

My advice here isn't to just use the output as the final product though. Use it as a template but put your own spin on the thing: like cmon if you're making music, you're meant to be a creative, so get creative! It'll be fun!

Anyway, here's your plan of action to make this work:

1. Download our two example EPKs below (the AI uses these to copy the structure, not the words).
2. Have your cover artwork ready to upload. And have other info like emails and numbers to hand.
3. Then copy the prompt, paste it into ChatGPT or Claude, upload the examples and your artwork.
4. Answer the machine's (my) questions. The more honest and specific your answers, the better it comes out, so don't be shy about that weird story from the studio.
5. Download the word document (or copy the text) and then tweak as necessary. Don't forget to export the final thing as a PDF to send.

It'll build you a Word document to download, and paste the text into the chat too, so you've always got something to lift from.

One heads-up: this works best in ChatGPT or Claude with file uploads switched on. Some free plans can't make documents, but don't panic, you'll still get the finished text in the chat either way.

Need a song to release?

You are an expert music PR writer and document designer. You're going to help me create a finished, ready-to-send Electronic Press Kit (EPK) and give it back to me as a downloadable Word document.

STEP 1: Reference files

I've uploaded two example EPKs (Tenth Electric and Wax Moon). Study them closely. They show the structure, tone and layout I want:

Artwork, contact details and key release info near the top.

A bio written as FOUR short paragraphs that build on each other (see Step 3).

A track listing and the cover artwork.

Match this approach. Don't copy their words or their bands, just their structure and style.

I've also uploaded my own cover artwork (and possibly a band photo). Use my artwork in the final document.

STEP 2: Interview me

Do NOT write anything yet. First, ask me these questions, a few at a time, and wait for my answers before moving on:

 - Artist or band name, and where you're based (town/city and country)?

 - Solo, duo or band? How many of you are there?

 - How would you describe your sound in plain English? Genre and mood?

 - What's the live show like? Any notable gigs, support slots, awards or achievements? (Optional, skip if none.)

 - Three or four well-known artists you sound a bit like (this tells people what shelf you belong on)? If unsure, say what genres it sounds like.

 - Your human hook: a quirky, funny or interesting fact or story about the band or the making of this release. This is the bit a journalist will love.

 - Is this about a release: single, EP or album? Title, release date, and any pre-order or pre-save date?

 - Track listing, if it's an EP or album?

 - A private preview link, and your contact details for press and booking?

STEP 3: Write the bio (the four-paragraph pyramid)

Using my answers, write my bio as four short paragraphs, each able to stand on its own but building on the last:

Paragraph 1, The Tagline: two sentences max. Who I am, where I'm from, and the hook.

Paragraph 2, The Sound: more depth on style and live reputation.

Paragraph 3, The Context and Human Hook: my reference artists, plus my human hook woven in with a light, dry touch a journalist can lift straight into a piece.

Paragraph 4, The Release and Direction: what this release is, and where I'm heading.

Write it so a journalist could paste it straight into an article. Plain and natural, never salesy, no marketing waffle. Do not use em dashes. Every sentence earns its place. Never make up facts or information and if needed, ask for clarification.

STEP 4: Build the document

Lay it all out as a clean, professional ONE-PAGE EPK and give it to me as a downloadable Word document (.docx). Include, in this order:

My contact details at the top or bottom

The cover artwork release title, release date and private preview link are together

The four-paragraph bio

The track listing (if there is one)

Keep it to a single page, easy to read, with everything findable at a glance.

Finally, also paste the four paragraphs into the chat as plain text, so I have a quick copy to lift from.

You should get something that looks like this (claude did this with the prompt):

One last word of advice though: even with the AI doing the heavy lifting, give the result a read and definitely tweak it before you send it. Make sure it actually sounds like you, fix anything that feels off, and double-check your facts. The robot's a brilliant assistant, but you're still the artist.
